This sequence of pictures is a conceptual hourglass linking Vincent van Gogh's 1888 painting "The Poet's Garden," in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Lurie Garden, an urban oasis just across the street from the Art Institute. The movement between one garden and the other is the movement between art as an imitation of life, and life as an imitation of art.
